Learning Styles

Learning Style Results

Active   7
Sensory  1
Visual    5
Global   3

According to the results from Felder and Soloman’s Learning style questionnaire, my preferred learning style is primarily Active. The results also indicate that I lean towards Visual as well.
  • I am best suited to learning experiences that are active and visually based. This could be through group tasks and discussions involving visual aides. I find that taking part in discussion groups definitely helps me to grasp concepts and theories quickly.  Taking part in presentations would also be a great learning experience for my type as watching others would be just as useful.

  • To ensure all learning types are supported within the class room I would vary my approach to teaching as much as possible.  Giving attention to lesson plans well in advance would ensure that a variety of learning experiences would be offered to the students. A range of learning methods throughout the lesson and even giving choices would accommodate all styles as well. For example, group discussions, interactive presentations using ICT tools, activity work sheets as well as individual reflective work.

  •  With my current knowledge of ICT I would make use of what is available to me to provide for all students. For example Powerpoint, Interactive Whiteboard, You Tube, pod casts, Videa/DVD. Even with my current limited knowledge of ICT, I understand how its use in the classroom can stimulate learning effectively for all types.

  • I would observe the students reactions to my lessons to see what works well for who, however I would also ask the students questions. For example,

Which do they prefer, individual work or group work?

Do they prefer physical activities or discussions?

Would they enjoy videos more than reading from handouts and books?

What they do in their spare time outside of the classroom?

  • The use of ICT tools in a classroom has many benefits for learners. It can stimulate learning in subjects that are difficult to grasp. It can support and improve teaching methods by catering for multiple learning styles at once.
